John Cannon, Ph.D.

I earned my Ph.D. in psychology from Saybrook Graduate School in California. I’m a Gottman Certified Therapist and have a passion for working with couples and addressing marital issues.

Throughout my career, I’ve been dedicated to helping people realize their full potential—whether in sports, music, the corporate world, or personal relationships.  I believe that in helping my clients develop the positive mental attributes necessary for attaining their own unique and specific goals, they can be successful and happy. With over 30 years of experience as a clinician, I bring both depth and compassion to my work. I am also trained in Adlerian psychotherapy.

As a Certified Gottman Therapist, I specialize in supporting couples and navigating marital challenges. In addition, I work with individuals struggling with substance use, depression, and anxiety. I am an advanced certified relapse prevention specialist, trained by Terry Gorski, and a certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). I also conduct evaluations for individuals under the jurisdiction of the Federal Department of Transportation.

Beyond clinical work, I’m a published author. I co-authored "How Can This Be?"—the epilogue for The Psychological Impact of War Trauma on Civilians (Praeger Publishers), as well as A Humanistic Approach to the Psychology of Trauma in Living With Terror, Working With Trauma: A Clinician’s Handbook (Rowman & Littlefield).
